House MP

The house located in the picturesque village of Giuliano di Lecce (LE) is an interesting example of architectural renovation and innovation. Set in an enclosed lot, the design focused on the valorisation of a ‘liama’ building, partly underground and characterised by a typical barrel vault.

The primary objective of the project was to create a new architecture recalling the Salento building tradition, while at the same time paying special attention to the client’s needs, in a space of about 55 square metres.

The project included the recovery and restoration of the old underground liama, reaffirming the value of a historical construction and preserving the memory of the place. The roof of the liama was designed not only to provide functional protection, but also to become a usable outdoor space, conceived as a natural extension of the dwelling. A pergola, located to the south, provides shade and comfort during hot summer days, thus delineating a living-kitchen area that manages to combine indoor and outdoor.

The architecture of the home is characterised by simple shapes and clean lines, allowing light to define and shape the different spaces. The play of light and shadow, together with the skilful use of local materials, help to create a welcoming and luminous environment, in perfect harmony with the surrounding context and the architectural culture of Salento.

This house is not just a place to live, but a true homage to tradition and the Salento landscape, managing to integrate the past with modern requirements.
