It is a landscape and architecture project that aims to regenerate the multi-faceted polarity south of the built-up area of the municipality of Gagliano del Capo.
The intervention creates a new architectural complex is residential in nature and is located in a manner overlooking Via Pirandello.
A new landmark of a changing city, the project proposes a series of interventions within the lot itself, conceived as a binder of its urban fabric, which lacks a precise identity despite the strong and dynamic presence of the entire area.
The concept aims to rationalise the flow of movement in the private area and to implement the internal/external pedestrianism: greenery becomes the main actor of the proposed transition, both through the creation of a garden at the foot of the new complex, and through the activation of a diffuse natural landscape. Point-like greenery will be placed in an eastern position so that the outdoor space becomes a new relational gathering place.
This process inserts the construction into a concept of a permeable system on a small urban scale that aims at the use of already produced resources, mitigates the effects on the built environment and opens up new scenarios of a contemporary architectural nature.
The new building consists mainly of two above-ground levels, which develop horizontally alternating full and empty spaces on both levels. On the ground floor, the building develops from east to west, generating a natural extension of the ‘courtyard’ area to the west.
The façade, however, represents the most dynamic element of the intervention. It adapts and changes consistently with the development of the building’s interior life and the three remaining expositions. Glass is the protagonist: both as an element of transparency and as a motif of composition, thanks to elements that change their inclination as they acquire verticality.
An enormous architectural element characterises the architectural staircase itself, becoming a luminous landmark at night.
