The particularity of the Villa GM project consists in its ability to combine architectural quality and energy performance of the building through innovative construction solutions as well as the use of renewable energy sources.
The reasons for the new intervention are to be found in the recent concentration of residential buildings in the area, which have favoured the housing demand of a young target.
The project frames a corner solution, by means of a private space enclosed on the two north and west sides and an opening onto the street front on the remaining two sides.
The envelope is the mediating element between the internal and external environment, able to respond appropriately to climatic and environmental stresses and to control energy flows so as to guarantee internal comfort while reducing energy consumption.
In order to guarantee better microclimatic conditions of the interior spaces, the project has taken into account the average albedo coefficients of the landscape; the prevalent colour used is white to facilitate the reflection of solar radiation
The external covering of the envelope was to use a thermal coat with hemp lime panels with a density of 130 kg/sq.m., using suitable mortar and an external finish based on hemp and NHL5 natural hydraulic lime, while inside, sheltered from sunlight a highly breathable lime and hemp-based plaster of the Canapamix 3 type with a thickness of approximately 2 cm was chosen, with a final hemp-based finish of the Canapittur type with styrene-acrylic and siloxane binders capable of conferring high water repellency and at the same time high water vapour permeability.
The choice of natural and therefore hemp lime-based plasters stems from the need to create a highly breathable building with control of internal humidity and the wellbeing of those living in it, a basic criterion that the RAM studio brings to its projects.
The themes of light and ventilation trace the design of the façades: numerous rhythmic perforations on the three east, south and west sides, while a thermo-block system with high thermal performance forms the closed curtain walls on the north front.
The central core of Villa GM stands out because it is wrapped in a skin of Apricena stone slabs on a special frame.
The latter promotes thermo-hygrometric comfort inside the two levels by means of a natural ventilation chimney, which makes it possible to maintain a high degree of air salubriousness; at the same time, it minimises energy consumption for air conditioning and guarantees better acoustic insulation.
